Ideas and experiences from our church members
On this day where people are participating in March for Our Lives, we have an opportunity to pray to support right decisions for our lawmakers and safety during the day.
I ran across this earlier in the week and it has given me much to pray with and much encouragement. It's from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 96. "This material world is even now bcoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. .... "Mortal error will vanish in a moral chemicalization. This mental fermentation has begun, and will continue until all errors of belief yield to understanding... "As this consummation draws nearer, he who has shaped his course in accordance with divine Science will endure to the end. As material knowledge diminishes and spiritual understanding increases, real objects will be apprehended mentally instead of materially." "During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection." This has given me some ideas. First, the conflict is to be expected and is not a sign of trouble but rather a sign of purification. While we learn what is true about God, Life, we will encounter conflict but this conflict does not destroy us. Rather, we will come to see the entire situation with clarity and peace. Second, the conflict is mental. It is not about physical force, even though it appears to be very physical, very violent. Third, the conflict isn't between people. It's the supposition that God made us out of matter and with mortal identities versus the understanding that God, Spirit, made us spiritually, intelligently, and lovingly. Finally, I asked myself what it might mean to discern Christian Science and how that can hold crime in check. To me, right now, it means that I will acknowledge and stay firm with the understanding that God is good and eternal, and gives me and everyone the right ideas to go forward. It also means that I can and must love my fellow man and trust that God communicates the right ideas to them as well. And what are these right ideas? Those are up to God to reveal as each of us takes the right steps. We will know them by the peace, love, patience, kindness, forgiveness, humility, and so on that God gives. Discerning this gives us the basis for stopping violent thoughts and behavior. God bless this day and every day, and guide each one of us in the right way. - KK
